Wesley "Blue Jay" Shields

April 1, 1955 — January 31, 2022

Wesley “Blue Jay” Shields, 66, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Monroe Regional Hospital in Aberdeen.  He was born on April 1, 1955 to Frank Benoit Shields and Bobbie Tubbs Shields Reeves.  Blue Jay attended Becker School and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  His perfection and attention to detail can be found throughout many homes in Monroe County as he was a self employed painted.  He took great pride in his work and his many satisfied customers.  Blue Jay enjoyed fishing, sitting on his porch drinking a cup of coffee watching the world go by.  More than anything, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  

 

He is survived by his mother, Bobbie Tubbs Reeves, Quincy; daughterKristen Monaghan (Dale), Quincy; son, Jason Cox, Shannon; sisters, Diane Adams (Eddie), Quincy, Frankie Phillips (Jimmy), Quincy, half sisters, Leigh Smith, Sonya Shields and Dana Shields; brothers, Danny Shields (Lynn), Amory; half brother, Rusty Reeves; grandchildren, Tyler Shields, Brandon Childress, Jason Allen Cox, Nicholas Lane Cox and Ricky Taylor Cox; nieces and nephews, Stacy Lee (Allen), Hamilton, Jennifer King (Randy),  Becker, Brian Shields, Becker; special friends, Pam Turman, Steve Phillips, Johnny Knight, Thomas Shields.

 

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his step father, Ralph Reeves; step brothers, Paul Shields and Randy “Big Dog” Reeves; nephew, Daryl Little; brother in law, Richard Little. 

 

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating.  Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Allen Lee, Gavin Lee, Grayson Lee, Randy King and Camden Perry.  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Phillips, Thomas “Blue” Ward, Thomas Shields, Ray Wright and Cecil Harris. 

 

Visitation will be on Wednesday prior to the service from 1 pm until 2:45 PM.
