Wayne Earl Towery, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born in Clarksdale, MS, he was a son to James Granville and Josephine Suggs Towery. Moving to the Nettleton area as a child, he attended Nettleton Schools. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the American Legion, and he loved airplanes. He was a sewing machine mechanic for many years prior to his retirement and his hobbies included reading, going to gospel singings, and attending air shows. He was a member of South Nettleton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Adams officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Gaynell Towery, Amory; one son, Gary Wayne Towery (Lori), Clinton, MS; two daughters, Joyce Auster (Marc), Clearmont, FL and Terry Towery, Amory; sister, Betty Colbert; three grandchildren, Brooke Lindsey Kerkoff (David), Brooke Crosland (Logan), and Hannah Towery; and one great grandchild, Charlotte “Charlie” Crosland, who made him smile so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sue Smith, Shirley Matthews, Jean Sanders, and Margaret Griffin; and brother, James Harold Towery.
Pallbearers will be Logan Crosland, Pearce Giles, Robert Harlow, and Marc Auster.
Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
