Sible Laverne Murphy Hathcock, 89, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Care Center of Aberdeen. She was born on August 15, 1936 in Monroe County to the late Frank and Mellie Suggs Murphy. Sible was a graduate of Smithville High School and played on the first state championship basketball team from Smithville. She married Dwight Hathcock on February 25, 1995. Sible owned and operated the Smithville Cafe in the 1970's and and was also a seamstress and floor lady at Monroe Trouser. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and playing checkers.
Sible is survived by her son, Phillip Hathcock; grandchildren, Courtney Page Harper and Gregory Allen Coker; great grandchildren, Hayden Harper, Aliyah Greathouse, Amaya Greathouse, Major Greathouse, Logan Coker, Connor Coker and Bella Coker; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sible is preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Hathcock; sister, Lucille Hathcock; brothers, Ralph, Jimmy, Gene and Junior Murphy.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with burial to follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon Dozier, Richard Box, Terry Allred, Terry Cagle, Jimmy Murphy and James Ralph Murphy.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 11 AM until 1 PM.
