Sharon Dykes

September 3, 1954 — January 24, 2019

Sharon Ann Blake Dykes, 64, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born in Tupelo on September 3, 1954 and the oldest of six, she was a daughter to Charles Burroughs Blake and Joyce Ann Brown Stephens. Sharon was a graduate of Nettleton High School and received her LPN certification from IJC and for over 35 years, she proudly worked as a nurse for Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. She was married to Tommy Ray “Coon” Dykes on June of 1971. Always smiling and selfless in every way, Sharon had a heart for people which allowed her to excel in her nursing career and could always be seen encouraging others even when she didn’t feel well many time. Sending cards, letters, notes, etc. was her way to show her love for others. A recent newcomer to Facebook, she was fascinated with being able to see others’ lives and enjoyed connecting with old friends all the while continuing to encourage others. Of the Baptist faith, she was faithful to watch the church services. An extremely proud Meme, she adored, loved, and cherished her grandchildren along with maintaining a special closeness with her siblings often encouraging them with scripture. A devoted mother, her son and daughter-in-law were her pride and she never let the memory of her daughter, Bridget die away. She was an avid MSU Bulldogs fan and followed Dak Prescott with the Cowboys. Funeral services for Sharon will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Ricky Jones and Bro. Wesley Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery. Survivors include her son, Justin Dykes (Keri) of Nettleton; her father, Charles Burroughs Blake of Nettleton; two brothers, Tim Blake (Susan) of Nettleton and Tommy Blake (Teresa) of the Carolina Community; 3 sisters, Charlotte Jones (Ricky) of Nettleton, Tonya Thompson (Tim) of Starkville, and Amanda Dabbs (David) of Hatley; 3 grandchildren, Jon Eric Dykes, Waylon Dykes, and Jace Dykes; and a host of nieces and nephews.
