Rubel V. Whitaker of Amory, MS passed away at his home on October 10th, 2026, at the age of 94. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory, MS with a graveside service at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen MS to follow at 1 PM, officiated by Pastor Grant Mitchell.

Rubel was born on February 14, 1932 in Hamilton, MS to the late Kirby Lee and Lourena Flippo Whitaker. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Whitaker, son, Darrell Whitaker (Janice) of Vernon AL, daughter, Brenda Sospenzi (Frank) of Lakeland, TN, stepdaughter, Lisa Blaxton (David) of Columbus, MS, two brothers, Gene Allen Whitaker (late Gertha) of Columbus, MS, and Lonnie Whitaker (Ann) of Amory, MS. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Brandy Wilson (Mike), Jonathan Kitchens (Brandi), Kelly Parks (Todd), Caleb Whitaker (Leah),16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Rubel is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 44 years, Alta Mae Owens Whitaker, son, Darren Whitaker, his sisters, Lavenia Young, Avie Nell Marshall, his brothers, James Whitaker, Wilburn Whitaker, Wilton Whitaker, Carlton Whitaker, Ralph Whitaker and, Frank Whitaker.

Rubel enjoyed fishing and cooking his famous catfish for family and friends. He was an avid deer hunter and killed his last deer at almost 94. His passion was gardening where he took pride in raising the most beautiful garden that he graciously shared with his neighbors, friends and family. And he loved his Mississippi State Bulldogs!

Prior to moving to Amory, he lived in Caledonia MS for over 40 years. He worked at Columbus Butane and retired after 31 years of service.

Pallbearers will be David Blaxton, David Livingston, Caleb Whitaker, Jerry Whitaker, Larry Whitaker, and Troy Parks.

These few things he believed in and passed along, love and spend time with God and your family, laugh more and anger less, and treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Rubel’s family would like to thank the nurses, staff and hospice of the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo for the care given.
