Ricky Moffett

August 19, 1955 — May 15, 2025

Smithville

Ricky Eugene Moffett, 69 peacefully passed away in his sleep on Thursday, May 15, 2025.  He was born on August 19, 1955 in Aberdeen to the late Oscar and Eddie Jane Moreland Moffett.  Rick was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1973.  While in high school, Rick was an outstanding achiever on the football field and loved to relive the glory days of high school sports.  From a youngster, Rick, along with his father and brothers farmed for many years.  He always felt tied to the land and his passion for farm equipment would carry on until his last breath.  For the last 41 years, Rick was an expert on hydraulics in heavy equipment and farming equipment.  Rick was so well know in his work that he worked on farm equipment from the upper midwest and as far south as Belize, South America.  If Rick couldn't get it fixed, no one could, earning him a trusted and reputable name among farmers, heavy equipment owners and dealerships, all across the country.  On Halloween of 1975, Rick married the love of his life, Kay Howard.  For almost 50 years, Rick and Kay shared a marriage that grew stronger with each passing day.  They enjoyed traveling to Nashville during Christmas and many other places together.  A devoted sports fan, Rick was always watching and pulling for the New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Cardinals and the Lady Vols.  He was a devoted father to his boys, Brandon and Jason, and took pride in teaching them his trade.  Rick also enjoyed sharing family history and visiting with all of his kin.  Rick and Kay are faithful member's of New Bethel Baptist Church in Peaceful Valley.  If you knew Rick, you know that he had a love for kids and was always excited to see his church and neighborhood kids.  They joy and happiness in their eyes made his day.  Rick loved farm equipment and was an obsessed collector of tractors, especially Allis Chalmers Tractors.  To date, he currently has a collection of 54 tractors that Kay knows about!  He enjoyed traveling to auctions and equipment sales, rescuing many antiques from the junk yard.  Rick was a humble, hard working man that will leave a lasting impact on all that knew him.

Rick is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Kay Moffett; sons, Jason Moffett, Detroit, AL and Brandon Moffett, Smithville; brothers, David Ray Moffett (Sheila), Smithville, Butch Moffett (Kathy), Smithville and Bryan Moffett (Carrie), Smithville; grandchildren, Colton Moffett, Marilyn and Meleeah; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; church kids, Lidia, Chase, Jacob, Tucker, Riley, Aubrey and Kaitlynn; neighborhood kids, Ryder, Jocelyn, Briley, Coleigh, Stephen, Georgia Kate and Ridge.
