Peggy Hodges

September 28, 1932 — November 8, 2022

Aberdeen

Peggy Jane Russ Hodges, 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Peggy was born on September 28, 1932 in Needmore, Indiana to the late Orville and Laura Savannah Long Russ and then at an early age her family moved to Morgantown, Indiana where Peggy grew up and attended school.

After her graduation, she married Henry Hodges on May 20, 1950 and began an epic adventure of a lifetime that would span 52 years of marriage.

Together she and Henry, along with their 10 children, traveled the length and breadth of the United States,  as far north as Alaska and as far south as Mexico.   The countless stories told of Henry and Peggy and their adventures of owning shrimp boats, gas stations, restaurants and farming are still told with  excitement and joy by their children.

Peggy took great pride in raising her children and being a supportive wife.  From making thousands of biscuits and gallons of gravy and countless meals in between, Peggy made sure everyone had enough to eat and everyone knew that her home was always open whether it be "the barn" or her little "condominimum".

She was selfless to say the least and never lived life for herself but instead for the greater good of others.  Comical and quick witted, she always had a great comeback and joke for nearly every situation.

To all who knew and loved Peggy, she was just "Granny" who loved her friends and family.

After her baptism in 1961 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses
she enjoyed sharing her faith  with many and was a much loved member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Aberdeen,  Mississippi.

Peggy is survived by her children, Rod Hodges (Tammi) of Bloomfield, IN, Jim Hodges (Lori), Aberdeen; Jane Dickerson (Keith) of Coweta, OK, Russ Hodges (Carla), Hatley, Paul Hodges of Bloomfield, IN, Phil Hodges (Melissa), Aberdeen, Joe Hodges (Phyllis) of Washington, IN, Melissa Luker (Alvis) of Belden and John Hodges (Kaleena) of Aberdeen; 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Fred Hodges and her 3 brothers, Harry, Richard and Bobby Russ.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Wayne Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be her sons, Rod, Jim, Russ, Paul, Phil and John.

Visitation will be on Saturday prior to the service from 11 AM until 12:50 PM.
