Paul Chumney

Paul Glen Chumney, 86, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 11, 2025.  He was born in Memphis, TN on December 5, 1939 to the late Joe Lee and Florence Leora Carter Chumney.  Paul attended school in Millington, TN.  He proudly served in the United States Army.  Paul could fix anything and worked as a Chevrolet Mechanic at dealerships in Memphis and Tupelo.  He married Judy Brown on September 29, 1983.  Paul retired from True Temper Sports in Amory with 26 years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking and will be remembered for his massive gardens.  It was often said of Paul that he didn't just garden, he farm gardened.  Paul loved to plant acres of peas and vegetables, often supplying the community with fresh vegetables.  Paul was a generous and humble man who made everyone's day with his smile and quick wit.  He was a devoted Christian and was a member of Cason Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy Chumney; children, Danny Chumney (Janet), Fulton, Bubba Bennett (Elizabeth), Nettleton, Leah Anna White (Paul Wayne), Fulton, Teresa Vaughn (Jay), Hatley and Johnnie Faye Lauderdale, Fulton; sister, Valery Salls, TN; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by a son, Paul Aldinger; sisters, Martha Osterholth and Carole Pinkerton; brothers, Bond L. Chumney, Joe Vaughn Chumney, Sam Chumney and Larry Chumney.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating.  Burial will follow in New Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Johnny Reid, Brayden Scruggs, David Robinson, Paul Wayne White, Sonny White, Timothy Paden, Bo Patterson and Jay Vaughn.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Sunday from 1 PM until the service hour at 3 PM.
