On Christmas night in 1952, she married the love of her life. Luther and Nan loved to tell the story of their marriage. Sitting in the back seat of a 1940 Chevy Coupe 5 seater; in a cotton patch; they were married by their preacher. Along side them, were friends that were also married that night. Nannie Mae held a flashlight over the Bible for the preacher to marry each couple. This was 70 years ago this past Christmas.
She worked at Blue Bell Factory until she became a nurse at the Red Bay Clinic. After moving to Amory in 1966, she worked at the garment factories and then in the cafeteria with the Amory School District until retirement.
Nannie Mae “Nana” was a very loving, strong, Christian lady. She always made sure you knew where to be come Sunday. You never had to wonder what was on her mind. As she would say “Wheather you want to hear it or not…” She always brought the conversations back to either her family or the Lord. She loved her church dearly and was a Charter member of Providence Baptist Church.
Her greatest earthly pride was her large family. She always loved Christmas Eve morning with them. She boasted that most of the whole family would be there for breakfast. Having nearly 40 family members in their small living room always made Luther and Nan so proud. One of her greatest passions was to travel. They loved to travel any chance they could and going out West was Nana’s favorite.
