Michael "Mack" Dykes

Oct 2, 1947 — Aug 25, 2026

Amory

How lucky we are to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Mack passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 after a protracted struggle with kidney disease. Michael D. "Mack" Dykes was born on October 2, 1947 to Clara Mae and Henderson D. Dykes in Amory. Mack married Elizabeth (Liz) Ashley in 1970 and they were blessed with 3 children. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Mack started and grew a family plumbing business that became an Amory institution. He took pride in working with his kids and all of his customers became his friends. Mack delighted telling a joke and making others laugh. He was deeply patriotic and loved the United States of America. He was a collector of Elvis memorabilia and loved all things Elvis. Anyone who has visited High Jackers on Hill Street can bear witness to his love of cars. In 1969 he bought a brand new Lemans Blue 4 speed 396 Chevelle. That car became known as the terror of the Amory to Hatley beer route (if you know, you know). Mack was one of those exceptionally unique and special people we meet along life's road who help us appreciate the journey.

Mack is survived by his wife, Liz Dykes; son, Matthew Dykes (Julia), Amory; daughter, Ashley Dykes, Ecru; brothers, David Dykes, Amory and James Dykes (Carol), Amory; brother in law, Loren Ashley (Teresa), Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Devon Dykes, Catlyn Dykes, Lizzy White, John White, Kyle Dykes and Michael Luke Dykes; great grandchildren, Waylon Lee Dykes and Georgia Mae Dykes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mack is preceded in death by his son, Bobo Dykes; siblings, Jackie McCommon, Zara Dykes and Tommy Dykes; father and mother in law, William H. and Dorothy Jean Ashley; niece, Bridgett Dykes; a host of aunts and uncles.
