Michael Farrar

September 24, 1962 — March 2, 2023

Michael Stanley Farrar departed for his heavenly home on Thursday, March 2nd, 2023 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. He was born on September 24, 1962, in Amory, MS to Stanley Joe and Linda Kay Farrar. Michael was a teacher, coach, talented artist and creator, historian, and wise counselor to all who knew him. However, his favorite and most important role was as a father to his two beloved children.

After graduating from Hatley High School in 1980, Michael continued his education at Itawamba Junior College and earned an art degree from Louisiana State University. He made fond memories of Louisiana during his time there and was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints football teams. In addition to his love for sports and art, Michael found a passion for teaching and began a career as a teacher and coach at Nettleton School District. He also taught and coached at Hatley High School until returning to Nettleton Schools. After retiring, Michael worked with Family First of Mississippi.

In his spare time, he loved reading history and visiting historical sites and was an avid historical war gamer. Michael was very creative and spent most of his retired days painting. He was also a faithful member and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Amory.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral  Home with Rev. Tom Cheatham officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery.

Left to treasure his memory are his children, Amy Frances Farrar of Starkville, MS, and Matthew Farrar, of Amory, MS, his parents, Stanley Joe and Linda Kay Farrar of Hatley, MS, his sister, Suzanne Farrar Knight (Joey), his brothers, Sidney Farrar (Mitzi), and Justin Farrar (Emily), his nephews and nieces, Russ Farrar (Catherine), Whit Brasfield, Telina Johnson (Cody), Alex Farrar, Jared Knight (Annalee), Maci Evans (Hayden), Molli Knight, Maggie Knight, and Reid Farrar, and his great-grand nephews and nieces, Cooper Johnson, Rivers Farrar, Brier Vale Johnson, Trace Farrar, Remi Farrar, Sage Bruff, and Case Evans, as well as a close group of friends he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dayton and Christine Farrar, and George and Laverne Vaughan.

Pallbearers will be Whit Brasfield, Alex Farrar, Jared Knight, Reid Farrar, Cody Johnson, and Hayden Evans. Honorary pallbearers are Russ Farrar, David Millender, Lee Drake and Jeff Finch.
