Mary Jane Reimer Swartzendruber, 92, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Oak Tree Manor in Amory.  She was born December 26, 1930 to John and Elizabeth Reimer at Goessel, Kansas.

 

She grew up on a farm north of Goessel and spent the first 8 years of school in a one room schoolhouse. After graduation from Goessel Rural High School, she entered St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas, graduating in 1952.  The following year she went into Voluntary Service at King’s View Homes in Reedley, California where she met her future husband.

 

On January 21, 1955 she was married to Paul Swartzendruber at the Little Country Church in Hollywood, California.  To this happy union were born two children; John and Susan.  She dearly loved her children, praying for them faithfully throughout her life.

 

She practiced her profession in various hospitals in Southern California, working only part time while the children were growing up.  In 1988 after 36 years of nursing, she retired and with her husband, moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she enjoyed a full life in an active retirement community. Two of her great joys in life were reading and traveling.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lenora Mae Reimer,  her husband Paul and her son in law, Buddy Smith.

 

Her passing leaves to mourn her son, John Swartzendruber and his wife wife Debra; daughter, Susan Smith; two grandchildren, Abbey and Gracie Swartzendruber, all of Mississippi.

 

Mary Jane will be laid to rest beside her husband, Paul at Phoenix Memorial Park in Phoenix, Arizona.
