Judy Kay Kuykendall Thompson, 77, passed away at her residence in Smithville on Saturday, January 13, 2024.  Judy was born in Monroe County on November 15, 1946 to the late Robert Lee “Bob” Kuykendall and Estyle Pennington Kuykendall.  She was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1964.  Judy graduated from Vaughn’s Beauty College and began her career as a beautician.  For 45 years she served her faithfull customers and looked forward to work each day.  She was also a faithful member of East Amory Baptist Church for 29 years, then attended Trace Road Baptist Church until the early 2000’s when she returned back to East Amory.  For 10 years, Judy enjoyed teaching the 2,3 and 4 year old children in Sunday School.  She also loved helping to plan programs and events for the senior citizens at church, as well as ministering to all of her friends at dialysis.  On May 2, 1997 Judy married the love of her life, Tommy Thompson.  Together they enjoyed camping alongside their Boston Terrier, Sissy.  Having no children of her own, she loved spoiling all of her nieces and nephews and when her great nieces and nephews were born, they got a double portion of spoiling which came in the form of Dum Dum suckers, hot wheel cars, and a dollar bill that was given during each visit.  Judy immensely loved her family and looked forward with great anticipation to get together with her family for birthday parties, family reunions or any other kind of special event.

Judy is survived by her sister, Becky Williams (Ricky), Smithville; brother, Larry Kuykendall, Smithville; sister in law, Debra Kuykendall, Smithville; stepson, Steven Thompson (Melissa), Joaquin, TX; nieces and nephews, Tonia Browning (Jeff), Gattman; Leigh Ann Mattox (Rich) of Mooreville and their children Sydney and Barrett; Nathan Kuykendall (Amy) of Smithville and their children Eva, Jonathan and Caleb; Melissa Beach of Smithville and her children Celia and John Aubrey; John Bryce Kuykendall of Smithville and Joseph Kuykendall of Smithville; a host of cousins and friends.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Estyle Kuykendall;  husband, Tommy Thompson; brother, John Kuykendall; sister in law, Diane Kuykendall.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 22, 2024 at East Amory Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Akers officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be her family and friends.  The men of East Amory Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
