A much‑loved wife, mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, great‑great‑grandmother, daughter, and sister, Juanita Rosebud Stephens Dykes Davis was born on July 5, 1926, in Nettleton, Mississippi, to Julia Mae Stephens and Alvey Poe Stephens. She was the fourth child in a family of nine and was raised with strong family values that guided her throughout her life.
Juanita attended school in Bigbee and Amory before returning to Nettleton, where she graduated high school in 1944. She later held the meaningful distinction of being the last surviving member of her graduating class.
A woman of deep and enduring faith, Juanita was a devoted member of Carolina Baptist Church and faithfully attended Bigbee Baptist Church for many years, continuing until her health no longer allowed her to attend in person.
Juanita was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She retired from Richards Manufacturing in Memphis, where she worked from 1972 to 1981, and from Walmart of Amory after many years of service from 1983 to 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Mae and Alvey Poe Stephens; three sisters; three brothers; her son, James “Jimmy” Dykes; daughters‑in‑law Shelby Davis Dykes and Valeria Davis Dykes; her first husband, James T. Dykes; and her husband, Ralford Q. Davis.
She is survived by her children: Robert Dykes (Annette) of Amory; Diane D. Engelhardt of Nettleton, Mississippi; Ralford Q. Davis (Mary Jane) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Robert Harold Davis of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Paxton of Davenport, Iowa; her brother, Johnny Stephens of Streator, Illinois; and many loving grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and great‑great‑grandchildren.
Juanita found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She especially cherished traveling with her son, Robert, on trips to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She also enjoyed going to church, playing bingo with her friends in Nettleton, reading, and completing crossword puzzles.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Reed House staff and Gentiva staff for the compassionate and exceptional care they provided Juanita.
Juanita Rosebud Stephens Dykes Davis lived a long life marked by faith, family, and strength. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
