Johnny Ray Sloan, 71, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in Amory on March 20, 1955 to the late William and Bessie Adams Sloan. Johnny grew up in the Cason Community and attended Nettleton School. He married Carol Tartt on June 4, 2004. Johnny enlisted and proudly served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for over 32 years. While serving, Johnny was activated to duty and courageously served a tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in the Guard, Johnny made many friends along the way. He also worked at People Lounger Furniture. Johnny had a big heart and an even bigger smile. He loved to ride the roads, visiting with friends and family. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone that would stop and listen. Johnny loved his farm animals, especially his chickens and goats. He was an avid Mississippi State Fan. Johnny was born again and loved the Lord. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Carol Sloan; step mother, O'Clay Sloan; sons, Donnie Sloan (Jessica), Ronnie Sloan (Missy) and Brandon Sloan (Samantha); step son, Caycee Adams; daughter, Haley Sloan; sisters, Brenda Cruse (Jimmy), Sandy Stovall (Rick), Jo Conaway (Rick) and Wanda "Bug" Sloan; brothers, Robin Sloan (Jennifer), Tommy Sloan (Dana) and Eric Sloan (Lauren); sister in laws, Becky Giles (Michael) and Diane Coleman; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by 2 brothers, David Sloan and Danny Roberts; great grandson, Connor Reed Sloan; Ronnie and Donnie's mother, Judy Sloan; daughter in law, Mytina Sloan.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Trey Roberts and Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lane Sloan, Micah Sloan, Jake Sloan, Braley Sloan, Marvin Adams, Richard Culver and Jason Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Lindsey, Barney Vann and member of his MS Army National Guard Unit.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 at the funeral home from 5-7 PM.
