Johnnie Grace Webster Baker, 91, of Bartahatchie Community passed away on August 13, 2023 in Aberdeen, MS. She will be greatly missed, but we know she is in a far better place.

Johnnie was born in Monroe County, MS on July 29, 1932, to William Edwin and Lovenia Coleman Webster.  She graduated from Greenwood Springs School.  Johnnie married her high school sweetheart, William Grady Baker, on June 6, 1950.

Johnnie and Grady moved to Miami Springs, Florida in the 1950’s.  Johnnie loved preschoolers and taught Sunday School at Miami Springs Baptist Church for many years.  She began working as a teacher’s aide at Miami Springs Senior High School.  Eventually Johnnie became a secretary for the local school district office.

Johnnie and Grady returned “home” after retirement and built their home in Bartahatchie.  There they were very active in the Bartahatchie community and at their church, Bartahatchie Baptist.  Johnnie enjoyed her involvement in the Bartahatchie Homemakers Club.  She also wrote a Bartahatchie news column for the local newspaper.

She is survived by her sons Keith Baker of Bartahatchie and Alan Baker (Laura) of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter-in-law Kathryn Baker of Ft. Myers, FL; grandsons James and Robert Baker (Jennifer), granddaughters Emily (Steven) Aguilera and Alyson Baker; and two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Aubrey Baker; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family.

She was predeceased one month ago by her husband, Grady Baker; her parents; brothers Herbert, Horace, Harold, Hoyt Webster and sisters, Joyce Chance and Juanita Speegle.
