Jim Best

James Edward “Jim” Best, 87, passed away at his residence in Amory on Thursday, July 9, 2026. He was born in Aberdeen on October 1, 1938 to the late Allen and Viola Sanderson Best. Jim attended Becker and Aberdeen Schools where he was voted most athletic. He had a longtime career at Techumseh where he worked in maintenance. Jim married Peggy Monaghan on November 11, 1955. He also served in the United States Army with the 523rd Engineering batallion during the Korean Conflict. Jim loved racing, hunting and fishing, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Jackie Armstrong (Vic); grandchildren, Lexie Stewart (Ben), Marlana McFarland (Richard), Jamie Nelson, Misty Daniel (Antuan), Lamine Khima, Sandahl Burleson, Hunter Armstrong; great grandchildren, Peyton Free (Tyler), Janet Reeves, Rylee Reeves, Zach Khima, Mallory Khima, Marisa Crowe; great great grandchildren, Peyson Free and Kolsen Free; brother, David Best (Belinda); a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Best; son, Jimmy Best; daughters, Janet Best and Terrie Wendricks; sister, Mary Ruth Frederick; brothers, Bobby Best, Wayne Best, Donny Best and Eddie Best.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Rodney Waycaster and Bro. Dave Best officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Victor Armstrong, Jamie Nelson, Zach Khina, Richard McFarland, Tyler Free, Lamine Khima, Ben Stewart and Wesley Robinson.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday from 1 PM until the service hour at 3 PM.
