Gerald “Jerry “ Wayne Goldsborough, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully February 13, 2026, at UMMC in Jackson, Mississippi, surrounded by family. A man of unwavering faith, steadfast patriotism, and boundless devotion to others, Jerry leaves behind a legacy rooted in his love for God, his family, his country, and his fellow veterans.
Born on January 16, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, to the late Gerald and Shirley Graham Goldsborough, Jerry’s life was marked by courage and conviction. On September 21, 1966, he answered the call to serve by joining the United States Marine Corps. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Jerry served honorably in various units and with the Department of Defense. He retired in 2005 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
For Jerry, military service was not merely a career - it was a calling. Even after retiring and settling in Amory, Mississippi, he continued to serve through his tireless involvement in numerous veterans’ organizations. He became an advocate, encourager, and brother-in-arms to many, and will be remembered for his compassionate, unwavering support of veterans.
Above all, Jerry was a devout Christian whose life reflected his faith in Jesus Christ. As a faithful member of Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory, he served and led with humility. He shared the love of Christ in his community and on mission trips to China and the Bahama Islands. Jerry’s faith was evident in the way he lived, loved, and gave of himself.
Jerry is survived by his children: Elizabeth Yvonne Crimm Graves; Gerald Wayne Crimm, Jr. (Stacy); Rachel Ann Wells (Matt); Katherine Marie Byrne (Jason); Sarah Ann Goldsborough; Rebekah Lynn Robbs (Chad); Geoffry Wells Goldsborough (Amanda); Haley Irene Furr; and Charles Cupit (Michelle). He was the proud grandfather to 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild expected in June 2026. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Larry Michael Key (Laura).
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Rose Cook Goldsborough and his infant son, Gerald Wayne Goldsborough, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory, with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt and Bro. Jamie Stark officiating. A livestream of the service will be available on Facebook for out-of-town friends who cannot attend in person. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Amory Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home prior to the service on Friday from 12:00 noon until the service hour at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to Monroe County Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 562, Amory, MS 38821.
