James Edward Wiginton, 97, passed away at Diversicare in Tupelo on Saturday, May 30, 2026. He was born in Hamilton, AL on July 15, 1928 to the late Walter and Velar Mitchel Wiginton. James was a graduate of Hamilton High School. He enlisted and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also stationed in Greenland. James married the late Pauline Hays on December 31, 1950. Moving to Amory, James opens up the Frisco Inn and operated the Nibble Nook Restaurant. He retired from the garment industry. James was a Christian and attended Vernon United Pentecostal Church. He had a gift of singing and sang in several different groups from California to Mississippi. He also sang on the Country Boy Eddie's show and was a longtime 1st Tenor singer with the Continentals Quartet.
James is survived by his son, Phillip Wiginton, Mooreville; grandchildren, Eric Wiginton (Shawn), Jordan Wiginton (Kayla), Alison Lopez (Justin), Jeremy Harris and Tonya Roach (Marty); a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, James is preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Rhinehart; grandson, Kevin Wiginton; siblings, Adgril Lovett, Hershall Wiginton and Roger Wiginton.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Rev. Mark Uzapan officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Tuesday from noon until 2 PM.
