James Rodney Parish

Amory- James Rodney Parish, 68, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial Hospital. Born in Amory on March 14, 1948, he was a son of James Noe Parish and Nellie Miller Parish. He married Shirley Shields on August 20, 1966. Growing up in Hatley, he graduated from Hatley High School Class of 1966. He retired from True Temper Sports in Amory. A sincere and faithful servant of God, Rodney served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Faith Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, word puzzles, watching football and baseball and studying his Bible. A true family man, he enjoyed time spent with his family and was often seen at his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school events, showing them his support. A selfless giver, he would help anyone in need. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church with Bro. P.J. Mortensen and Bro. Danny Carl Burks officiating. Burial will be in the Hatley Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Parish, Amory; mother, Nellie Parish, Amory; daughters, Rhonda Key, Amory and Tonya Lovelady (Jamie), Smithville; grandchildren, Aimee Key (Nick), Amory, Sarah, Tyler and Gabe Lovelady all of Smithville; great grandson, Jayden Ray Forrester, whom he and Shirley were raising as their own; brother, Gary Basham (Delores) of Amory; sister Charlotte Blake (Randy) of Nettleton; and special friend, Faith Baptist Church members and Jimmy Dahlem. He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Edna Reese; brother, James Noe Parish, Jr.; granddaughter, Kimberly James; great granddaughter, McKenzie Forrester; and numerous aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be Tyler Lovelady, Gabe Lovelady, Nick Williams, Chris Zirlott, James Blaylock, Ed Hunter, and Nicholas Parish. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home and Mr. Parish will lie in repose one hour prior to the service at the church.
