James William Haughton, Jr., 80, passed away at his residence in Cason on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was born in Monroe County on May 16, 1941 to the late James William Haughton, Sr. and Lera Lila Oswalt Haughton. He married the love of his life, Ocie Mae Graham on April 2, 1960. James was a master mechanic and owned and operated service stations in Nettleton and Amory. James was also a gifted and accomplished musician. If you ever heard music coming from a home on Cason Road, you could bet it was James and all of his buddies playing and singing in his music house in the yard. He loved nothing more that to have great big picking and singings with his friends. He was a true Hank Williams fan, knowing how to play and sing all of his songs and it was even said that he could bring a tear to the eye just like Hank could. James was also a very patriotic American who loved studying all of the military conflicts, especially WWII. To know James was to know that he genuinely loved people. He never met a stranger and would make a new friend seem like he was a lifelong friend. More than anything, he loved his wife dearly, always staying by her side. His next love was his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ocie Mae Haughton, Cason; daughters, Kathy Haughton House, Nettleton, Angie Cline (Ronnie), Jonesboro, AR and Jamie Steinke (Charles), Amory; son, Chad Haughton; grandchildren, Amber Welch, Candace Hardin, Jeremy Hosea, Anthony and Nathan Gray, Brad, Brannon and Tyler Cline, Brittany Smith, Brandon Steinke and Cade Haughton; 22 great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Parden (Weldon), Saraland, AL; special cousin, Tim Causey (Denise) and their children, Austin and Eli Causey, Nettleton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Doris Haughton and sisters, Linda Chapa, Joyce Baker Kirksey and Willie Causey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. James Rutledge officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad, Brannon and Tyler Cline, Brandon Steinke, Rob Smith and Mark Carroll.
