James E. Best, Jr.

James Edward Best, Jr., 63, passed away at his residence on January 1, 2026.  He was born in Amory to James E. Best, Sr. and Peggy Monaghan Best.  James was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1980 where he excelled at playing football.  He worked in the area furniture industry.  James enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed NASCAR, always pulling for Dale Earnhardt when he was racing.  

James is survived by his father, James Best, Sr.; sister, Jackie Best Armstrong (Victor), Tupelo; nieces and nephews, Misty Daniel, Jamie Nelson, Marlana McFarland (Richard), Lexie Stewart (Ben), Sandahl Burleson and Hunter Armstrong; a host of great nieces and nephews and 1 great great nephew; aunts, Mary Ruth Frederick and Linda Presley; uncle, David Best (Belinda).

James is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Best; sisters, Janet Best and Teresa Wendricks; grandparents, aunts and uncles.  

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, January 16,  2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Rodney Waycaster officiating.  Inurnment will be in Calvary Church Cemetery.
