Carolyn Hope (Hunter) Lee finished her earthly journey on November 29, 2025 after a courageous year long battle with cancer. She was born February 28, 1964 to the late Guthrie and Elizabeth (Libby) Hunter of Mantee, MS. After graduating Cumberland HS, Hope subsequently graduated from MS State in 1986. While working as an interior designer in Columbus, MS she met her soulmate of 37 years, David Lee. After marrying in May, 1988 she began a global tour as an “Air Force” wife dedicated to raising and homeschooling her children. Her first love of Christ, led her to serving as teacher and director in multiple church AWANA programs and singing in choirs. One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting and teaching the craft to others. In 2009, tragedy struck in losing her home to fire followed months later by the sudden loss of her precious 11 yr old daughter Abigail (Abby). Yet her faith shined through her daily FB devotions connecting her to hundreds of people whose lives she touched. In 2010 she and her husband founded Abby Acres Christian Camp, teaching hundreds of children Christ’s love, as well as healing for women attending Bereaved Mom conferences. In September 2023 the Lord inspired Hope and her husband to meet a dire need by donating the camp’s cabin as the resident dorm for Friend of God, a women’s recovery ministry. Hope volunteered to teach and mentor, forming strong bonds with the women through Bible studies and teaching crochet. In appreciation of her loving dedication, the charity honored her by naming its family award the Hope Lee award. In November 2024, she was diagnosed with aggressive, non-curable cancer. Through her battles she remained strong in faith as she longed to still take care of her family and serve others. Besides loving the Lord, her top priority was her role as grandmother “Hopie” to her four precious grandboys and the pending birth of her first granddaughter. They were the joy of her life as she fought daily to overcome many setbacks. Just one month before her passing she was able to meet and spend hours holding her granddaughter, Eleanor. In her final week she was constantly surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind her husband Lt. Col. David Lee, her sons, Dr. Mark (Amanda) Lee, Wade (Elva) Lee, Ricky Simmons (whom she loved as a son), and daughter, Julia Lee. Her “greatest joys” - her grandchildren Jace, Jett, Jack, and Johnny Lee and Eleanor (Ella Dís) Lee. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Linda Stevens and Becky Johnson and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She has joined her precious daughter Abigail Ruth Lee in heaven.
We will miss her forever, but know she is exactly where she is supposed to be with Jesus.
