Frank Keith Owen, Jr., 80, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in Pontotoc, Mississippi on October 9, 1945 to the late Frank Keith Owen, Sr. and Margaret Willeen Nesbit Owen. Frank was a graduate of Pontotoc High School. Less than 1 month after his 21st birthday, Frank was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served in Panama in communications during the height of the Vietnam War. Frank’s wartime telecommunications training would eventually lead to a career of 37 years that started with Southern Bell and transitioned to BellSouth and lastly AT&T. Even after retirement, Frank was the go-to person for all communications and IT solutions for many local businesses in town. Frank married the love of his life, Susan Ford on June 27, 1965. For the next 60 years Frank and Susan would build a life of love, commitment and family that would be their greatest legacy. Frank never met a stranger and loved a good conversation over a cup of coffee. Frank was an encourager and truth teller to all he knew. He and Susan joined Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory over 45 years ago, where they would raise their family and serve in the church. Frank was a longtime deacon and Sunday School Teacher, leading by the example Christ set of humility, compassion, kindness, grace and mercy. Franks legacy of faith, family, friendship and service will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
Frank is survived by his wife, Susan Owen, Amory; daughter, Shae King (Mike), Greenwood Springs; son, Sheldon Owen (Sarah) Morgantown, WV; sister, Jayne Donovan (Bill) New Bern, NC; brother, Carlton Owen (Brenda) Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Jill Byars, Keith Byars, Dane Byars, August Owen, Alden Owen, Conner King and Cade King; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory with Bro. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Interment will be held in the North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Byars, Dane Byars, Conner King, Cade King, Andy Easter and Chris Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank’s Sunday School Class, Jimmy Barnett, Ray Blaylock, Jeff Boozer, Robert Boozer, Ronnie Boozer, Hal Bourland, Bobby Brown, Bob Collier, Jay Cowley, Tom Douglas, Steve Fowlkes, Jesse Lindsey, Jackie Palmer, Dempsey Rowland, Barry Rowland, Barry Smith, Ross Stark, Michael Stevens, Wes Steverson, Larry Spann, Tony Swan, Nathan Terry, Eddie Wilemon and Curtis Younger.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2 PM until 3:45 PM at Meadowood Baptist Church.
Frank was honored to serve as a Gideon and it is asked that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to the Gideons International.
