Eddie Jane Moffett, 90, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at her son’s residence in Smithville. Born May 8, 1927 in Amory, she was a daughter of Joseph Early and Lerah Mae Finch Moreland. Growing up in the Harmony Community, she attended Becker School and she married Oscar Moffett in 1943. She retired as a homemaker also having worked for Longenecker’s for 17 years. Getting her driver’s license at 65, she was still driving her old Buick around the community visiting her friends and family right up until her health recently failed. As a homemaker, Mrs. Moffett loved to sew and did that for many years and enjoyed gardening. Her favorite time was spent with her family, most especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Smithville Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Moffett will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. John Hallman and Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will be in the Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville.
Survivors include her 4 sons, David Moffett (Sheila), Butch Moffett (Cathy), Ricky Moffett (Kay), and Bryan Moffett (Carrie) all of Smithville; one sister, Rebecca Mitchell of Amory; 12 grandchildren, Dave Moffett, Luke Moffett, Corey Moffett, Brandy Dill, Jason Moffett, Brandon Moffett, Dustin Moffett, Devin Moffett, Dillon Moffett, Katy Jane Moffett, Kevin Dill, and Kimberly Foster; 6 great grandchildren, Tyler Moffett, Drake Moffett, Colton Moffett, Chet Moffett, Kate Dill, and Caroline Dill; sister-in-law, Inez Moffett of Moss Point; special friends, Eulene Caldwell, Brenda Collums, Ken Mason, Thomas Stafford, Fred Brown, and the Peggy Washington Family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Oscar Moffett; one brother, Greely Moreland; and 4 sisters, Maureen Bearden, Nelda Hunter, Laura Mae Coleman, and Mable West.
Pallbearers will be Dave, Luke, Jason, Dustin, Devin, and Dillon Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of her grandsons and her great grandsons.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
