Dwight Gainie Pennington, 69, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Dwight was born in Columbus, MS on August 24, 1953 to the late James Robert and Dorothy Sloan Pennington. He grew up in Tupelo and graduated from Tupelo High School where he was a member of the band. After high school, he honorably served in the United States Marine Corp being stationed in San Diego as an aircraft mechanic. Dwight's entire working career was spent as a truck driver. He loved being a truck driver, traveling across the country seeing all of the different sights. Out of all of his travels, Montana was his favorite state. When Dwight was home, he enjoyed cooking and eating Mexican Food. He also enjoyed every moment he was able to spend with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. In his younger years he enjoyed coon hunting and deer hunting.
Dwight is survived by his sister, Cathy Hughes of Horn Lake, MS and his brother, David Pennington (Margie) of Saltillo; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend, Carol Villani.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jury and Bess Pennington; John Gainie and Dora Ridings Sloan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 P.M. on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Carolina Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Brian Nanney, Glen Jewell and Dusty Hughes.
Visitation will be prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday from 2 PM until 2:45 PM.
