Dorothy Jeane “Jeannie” Palmer Spiers passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. Dorothy was born in Amory on September 16, 1944 to the late Carl Blanchard Palmer and Kathleen Hill Palmer. She graduated from Amory High School in 1962 and began working for Bank of Amory during her senior year. Dorothy married Joseph C Spiers, III on April 2, 1965. They were blessed with one daughter, Jeanna Kathleen Spiers.
In 1990, Dorothy took early retirement from the Bank of Amory after 28 years of service and then began working part time for Amory Federal. In 2022 Dorothy was presented her Certificate of Membership in the Fifty Year Club by the Mississippi Bankers Association, although at the time, she had nearly 60 years of banking. While working, Dorothy was a familiar face to her many customers. Her warmth, kindness, and encouraging words will be fondly remembered by her customers and coworkers alike.
Dorothy was an active and charter member of North Boulevard Christian Church, where she served as Secretary-Treasurer for more than 30 years. Her favorite pastimes were reading, listening to music and attending concerts, and especially spending time with her daughter, Jeanna and sisters, Linda and Kathy and Girls Day Trips.
Survivors include her beloved daughter, Jeanna Kathleen Spiers; sisters, Linda Stanford and Kathy Collins; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C Spiers, III; brother, Carl Wayne Palmer; brothers in law, Victor “Sonny” Stanford and Charles “Chatt” Collins; sister in law, Moonyean Spiers Tucker; father and mother in law, Joseph C Spiers, Jr. and Rita Spiers.
Funeral Services were held at 11 AM on Monday, August 10, 2026 with Bro. Buzz Wilkinson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Dorothy is interred in the Amory Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sanctuary Hospice House, Abundant Life in Amory or an animal rescue of choice.
