Doris “Dot” Marie Shepherd Smith, 83, passed away at Monroe Regional Hospital in Aberdeen on Thursday, June 11, 2026. She was born in Columbus on June 28, 1942 to the late Guidy and Euna Fields Shepherd. Dot was a graduate of New Hope High School. She married Milton Smith on July 4, 1964. She retired from Sharp Garment Industry in Aberdeen. After retirement, Dot opened her home up and babysat several children in the Hamilton area, loving them as if they were her own grandchildren, and affectionately earned the nickname Mammaw Dot. She enjoyed taking care of others, cooking for family gatherings, watching gameshows and visiting with her friends. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in New Hope. She loved her faithful companion and dog, Angel. Dot truly lived a life of selflessness and genuine love for all. She will be remembered by the lifetime of love that she gave to all she knew.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Melissa Stewart (Eddy), West Point; son, Marvin Smith (Debbie), Bartahatchie; step son, Mike Smith (Kathy), Louisville, KY; brother, Ralph Shepherd (Charlene), Columbus; sisters, Marion Chaney , Zachary, LA, Kathy Wright (Troy), Hamilton; sister in law, Janet Shepherd Manley, Walnut, MS; grandchildren, Dakota Rhodes Summerford (Drew), Smithville, Montana Rhodes Reed (Lyle) Scooba, Cheyenne Rhodes Burt (Dillon), Bogue Chitto, Dylan Smith (Kelsey), Hamilton and Brent Smith, Bartahatchie; step grandchildren, Chris Smith (Julie) and Leslie Klinger (Frankie); great grandchildren, Audrey and Rhodes Summerford, Kylar Smith; step great grandchildren, Lacey Wyatt; Jaxon and MaKenzie; a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dot is preceded in death by her brother, Gwen Shepherd; sisters, Morine Rowell and Alice Green; great grandson, Porter Reed.

Funeral Services for Dot will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. George Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Center Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Drew Summerford, Lyle Reed, Dillon Burt, Dylan Smith, Brent Smith and Rhodes Summerford. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Chaney, Brian Bagdan, Chris Roberie, Bobby Hurd, Phillip Rowell, Terrell Rhodes, Wayne Shepherd and Howard Shepherd.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Sunday from 1 PM until the service hour at 2 PM.

Dot’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Monroe Regional Hospital.
