Curtis Wayne Lewellen, 89, passed away in West Point, MS on Thursday, June 11, 2026. He was born in Ripley on November 2, 1936, to the late Lona Barkley Lewellen. Curtis was a graduate of Ripley High School, Class of 1954. After graduation he attended college at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Curtis honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was activated to Ole Miss in 1962 under the order of President John F Kennedy. Curtis married June Knight in 1959 and eventually the settled in Amory where he had a longtime career at True Temper Sports, retiring as a supervisor. Curtis was innovative in the golf shaft industry and due to his improvements on the shafts he was awarded several patents that still stand in the U.S. Patent Office. After retirement, he worked a number of years as a consultant for True Temper. Curtis was a faithful Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church in Amory for many years where he served as chairman of the deacon board and taught the young adult Sunday School class.
After June passed away in 2001, Curtis married Mary Carolyn Hurst Lewellen in 2007. They resided in Amory for many years. They later moved to West Point, where he was a member of First Baptist Church, West Point. Curtis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He valued time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing and attending Mississippi State sporting events.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Mary Carolyn Lewellen, West Point; daughters, Lona Rosetti (Tony, West Point, Suzanne Wallace (Querk), FL, Lori Wicks (Rocco), NM, Zandy Bernegger (Mark), West Point and Susan Ervin (Chad), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Elizabeth Zepponi (Fred), Andrew Dichiara (Abbey), Laura Heard (Sykes), Savannah Griffith (Eric), Lilyanne Alissandratos (Jared), Emma Wallace (Fiance, Landon), Kyle Wicks, Maddie Wicks, Paige Jeter (Josh), Tayler Knowles (William), Carly Darnell (Kyle); 18 great grandchildren; niece, Myra Kennedy; nephew, David McElwain.
In addition to his mother, Curtis is preceded in death by his wife, June Lewellen; sister, Nyleen McElwain; and brothers, Billy and Nelbert Lewellen.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Wicks, Andrew Dichiara, Hazard Zepponi, Charlie Zepponi, Chad Ervin and Mark Bernegger. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Tapp, Lester Cagle, Paul Knox, Bob Wilson, Larry Palmer, Gene Haney, Larry Johnson and Pack Forbus.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 10 AM
until the service hour at 11 AM.
Curtis's family will like to extend a personal thanks to his caregivers and sitters, Eileen Hunter and Rosa Gonzalez; Sanctuary Hospice Nurse, Valerie Miller; Brett Miller and the entire caring staff at Dugan Memorial Home.
