Billy Levert Powell, a resident of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born on August 3, 1933, Bill was a native of Amory, Mississippi, a place that always remained close to his heart. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1959, earning the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he built a dedicated career and later retired from Smith Valve in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Bill was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending his time playing golf, fishing, and hunting, and he especially cherished dancing with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Clariece. A devoted husband and father, Bill’s greatest happiness came from time spent with family and friends. He was known for sharing stories filled with wisdom, humor, and life lessons—moments treasured by many, including his dear friend Terry LeBlanc, the staff at Francois Bend, and most especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through these stories, his legacy will continue for generations.

A faithful member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ in Amory, Mississippi, Bill was deeply committed to his church community and found great fulfillment in volunteering and serving others.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Tena Powell; his grandchildren, Christena Brignac (Andrew), Patricia Day (Scott), and Kirk Powell (Magen); and his great-grandchildren, Kyla Millet (Austen), Sergeant Cullen DeArmond (Eileen), Lexi Brignac, Alyssa Powell, and Paisley Powell.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clariece Jones Powell.
