Bill Fisher

William A. “Bill” Fisher, Jr., 86, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the NMMC-Tupelo.  Bill was born in Memphis on October 18, 1937 to the late Albert and Louise Coggin Fisher.  He was a graduate from Memphis Tech High School.  Bill had an extremely high IQ and excelled through school.  He was a longtime member of MENSA and Intertel High IQ Societies.

He had an analytical mind which led him to computer programming.  Bill was a sought after computer programmer in the manufacturing industry and actually pioneered many computer programs for the furniture industry.  After 40 years of manufacturing programming, he retired from People Lounger as the Programmer and Data Processing Manager.  He loved his country and honorably served as an MP in the United States Air Force.  Bill was also a gifted musician who played the upright bass in several bands.  Not only did he play in bands, he backed up several famous musicians such as Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.  Bill was also a Master Gardener and served as president of the Master Gardener Club in Tupelo.  He gave numerous lectures on proper growth, fertilize, pest and fungus techniques on roses, he also was instrumental to getting a Master Gardener help line set up.  His most enjoyful times were spent piloting a Cessna plane and playing in bands.  He also loved a good laugh while playing jokes on others.  Bill was a faithful member of Bigbee Baptist Church where he was the oldest veteran in the congregation.  

 He is survived by his wife, Laura Marshall Fisher; sons, Tom Fisher (Pam) of Germantown, Jim Fisher of Saltillo and Jerry Fisher of Atlanta; stepsons, Matthew Christian of Memphis and Tyler Christian (Shelly) of Amory; step daughter in law, Melinda Christian of Amory; sister, Ann Schultz of Brooksville, FL; brother, Ed Fisher of Embro, Ontario Canada; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, June Collins Fisher; brother, Johnny Fisher; step son, Chris Christian.

 Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Justin Haynes officiating.  Burial will follow in Amory Masonic Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Cory Fisher, Robert Fisher, Kevin Fisher, Collins Fisher, Will Fisher, Hudson Fisher,Ryan Christian, Dylan Christian, Cason Cox and Caleb Cox.

 Visitation will be prior to the service on Sunday from 1 PM until 2:45 PM.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Bigbee Baptist Church.
