Betty Burt passed away July 15, 2015 at her home in Amory after an extended illness. She was born in Itawamba County on March 1, 1940 to Erbie and Villa Moore. After graduation from IAHS, she was employed in the office of Amory Garment for 15 years. She then moved to Senatobia, MS, where she managed a cable company for 5 years. Upon leaving Senatobia, she became a full-time housewife, relocating with her husband to North Carolina, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee. They also spent time together in Toronto, Canada. She enjoyed living in every single one of these states and meeting different people. For over 30 years, she enjoyed riding motorcycles until she became disabled. After retirement 13 years ago, she returned to the Hatley area to be close to her two grandsons with whom she loved very much.
Funeral services will be on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Rev. Jackie Gray officiating. A private burial will be in the New Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Tom Burt, Sr.; one son, Tom Burt, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lisa Burt; two grandsons, Trey Burt and Casey Burt; one sister, Lurene Walton; and a special neice, Nelllie York.
Pallbearers will be Skip Francis, Bob Hill, Willie Rushing, Roger Beachum, John Edward Gray, and Ricky Wells. Honorary pallbearer will be Carla Glasgow.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
