Barbara Cox

Smithville

Barbara Ann Tuck Cox, 78, passed away on February 27, 2023 at The Meadows in Fulton.  She was born on December 1, 1944 in Marion County, Alabama to the late Raymond and Sarah Elzie Carter Tuck.  She attended Hamilton High School.  For a number of years, she worked in the area garment industry.  On June 24, 1978, she married Lewis Edward Cox.  Soon after she and Ed were married, Barbara earned her Beautician License and owned her own beauty shop for 20 years.  On Thanksgiving Day of 1979, she gave birth to her son, Lewis Jerome Cox.  Barbara loved people and enjoyed visiting with her relatives and neighbors.  She was always there to lend a helping hand with whatever anyone needed whether it was helping in the garden, canning, pickling, washing or shelling peas, she was there to help.  She also enjoyed working her own garden, sewing and eating her favorite snack, yellow meated watermelon.  Barbara was baptized in 1978 at Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she dutifully and willingly served the Lord.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, loving her family as only she could.  Her family was second only to her Savior.  Barbara had a heart that was big enough for all to have a place in it.  She was a very special woman who had a unique outlook on life and loved to laugh.  She had a genuine concern for her family, friends and neighbors and was dedicated to her Lord and her church family.
