Dennis Barnette

February 24, 1951 — September 12, 2018

Dennis Michael Barnette, 67, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at his home in Nettleton. Dennis was born on February 24, 1951 in Amory to James Edgar and Josephine Weaver Barnette. He was a graduate of Amory High School and after joining the U.S. Army, he honorably served until 1988. He was stationed in Panama and he also served in the aviation battalion as a CWO helicopter pilot for the Mississippi National Guard. Having a love for flying, Dennis flew both heli and fixed wing aircraft as a civilian for many years, worked for WAMY Radio in high school, as an engineer for the Mississippian Railway and later retired from Lann Chemical. Dennis was known as a jack of all trades, but his passions were model railroads, trains, and anything to do with aviation, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and there was nothing he liked better than to eat a fish plate and watch RFD television. He married Lane Norris on June 26, 1987 and he was a member of the Jones Chapel Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Wesley Stephens and Bro. Bill Monaghan officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Chapel Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Lane Barnette of Nettleton, two sons, David Mitchell (Dawn) and Bobby Mitchell (Debra) both of Amory; one brother, James Russ Barnette (Kim) of Garland Island, FL; one sister, Janice Barnette Wilkerson (Reid) of Nashville; 10 grandchildren, Hannah Mitchell, Kristen Barr, Drew Fowlkes, Clay Mitchell, Ryan Mitchelll, Evan Mitchell, Logan and Bailey Hudson, and Mattox and Taylor Britt; two great grandchildren, Liam Crocker and Warren Michael Barr; nephews, Bill and Jim Barnette, and James Wilkerson; and nieces, Crystal Pate and Rachel and Sadie Wilkerson. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Pallbearers will be Ryan Mitchell, John Taylor Riley, Thomas Riley, Charlie Murphy, James Wilkerson, and Michael Ricks. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Sheffield, Willie Lockett, Alan Coleman, Joey Britt, and Paul Hicks. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
