Pinkie Belle Abel

Pinkie Abel, 97, died on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at her home. Born November 24, 1917 in Detroit, Ala. she was a daughter to James Elbert and Della Rye King. She was a 1937 graduate of Smithville High School and was married to Melvin Abel. Before her retirement she worked as a seamstress at Red Kap in Amory. Known as an excellent quilter, she took great pride in making dozens of beautiful quilts giving each grandchild a quilt upon graduation. Also known as an accomplished cook, her most requested dish was homemade fried peach and apple pies. She was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Smithville Church of Christ with Minister Jeff Horton officiating. Burial will be in the Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include 3 sons, Jimmy Abel (Peggy) of Amory; Jacky Abel (Carolyn) of Smithville and Robert Ables (Debbie) of Smithville; one daughter, Doris Ables Dean (Doug) of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Pam Abel Martin (Lee), Tracie Dean May (Brock), Tanya Dean Jones (Brad), Kim Abel Sink (Jason), Bridget Abel, and Dillon Abel; and 7 great grandchildren, Cameron Martin, Kristen Sink, Brayden Jones, Noah Jones, Jack May, Lauren Jones, and Lexie May. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and infant daughter; one brother, Edward King; one sister, Pearl King Gregory; and an infant granddaughter, Angela Carol Abel. Palbearers will be Billy King, Dwight King, E.J. Gregory, Garry Milligan, J.E. Ables, Bilbo Davis, and Paul Abel. Visitation will be noon until service time at the church on Saturday.
