Otis Summerford

Amory- Richard Otis Summerford, 81, died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born to Garvin and Evie Prestridge Summerford on August 26, 1934 in Itta Bena, MS. He married Louise Tarver on March 3, 1960. He was a graduate of New Hope High School Class of 1953. He made many friends throughout his career at Pennsylvania Tire, where he was famous for selling his peanut brittle and became known as the Candy Man. He later retired from Amory Garmnent. A fun loving man, he was notorious as being a jokester, he was also a man of few words and a giant among men. He was a member of Apostolic Truth Tabernacle , a devoted man of God he was often found lending a working hand around the church. He enjoyed being with his family and was affectionately called Paw Paw by many. He is survived by his wife, Louise Summerford, Amory; daughter, Anita Sullivan Hardin (Hardy), Twin, Al; step daughter, Cathy Parish, Nettleton; grandchildren, Jeffery Sullivan (Jennifer), Candy Canterburry, Dianna Hawkins, Greg Hardin (Telena), Tonya Powell (Craig); granddaughter in law, Audrey Sullivan; great grandchildren, Hannah, Jenna and Jackson Sullivan, Will Canterburry, Stormie Dodds, Emmie Hawkins, and Rylee Hardin; great great grandchildren, Paisley Dodds and Hadley Canterburry; special friend, Luke Leech; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, E.J., Curtis and Deward Summerford, grandson, Jamie Sullivan; great granddaughter, Mackenzie Hardin. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Petty and Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tyler Ligon, Triston Ligon, Aaron Petty, Danny Fulton, John Ward, Jimmy Fulton, Jim Earp and Tony Coxey. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Strevel, Malcolm Tidwell, David Tidwell, E.C. Pierce, Dr. Dwight McComb, Dr Josh Griffin, Katie McDuffie,NP, James Hall, Bro. Greg and Traci Huguley, Employees of Gentiva Hospice and New Hope graduating Class of 1953. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 12:30 until service time at 2:30.
