Harold Graydon Vickrey

July 10, 1920 — August 23, 2015

Harold Grayden “Vick” Vickrey, 95, died on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Merit Health Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. Born July 10, 1920 in Huxford, Alabama, he was a son of C.B. and Laura Mae Bass Vickrey. He grew up in Huxford and attended school there later marrying Loretta Jeffreys on October 1, 1948 in Osceola, AR. Before his retirement, he worked 37 years as a mechanic for the Frisco Railroad traveling extensively with the railroad. In 1952, he dug the foundation for the Frisco offices in Amory which is now Amory City Hall. Serving in the U.S. Army, he was a veteran of World War II serving in Japan during Occupying Japan after the dropping of the A-Bomb. He enjoyed farming, horses, and goats. His greatest fulfillment was being with family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. John Johnson and Bro. Van Dale Hudson officiating. Burial will be in the Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville. Survivors include one son, Graydon Vickrey, Jr.; one daughter, Sheila Moffett (David) of Smithville; one brother, Jack Vickrey (Marcia) of Mobile, Ala.; 3 sisters, Lanelle Bell (Gene) of Macon, GA, Elizabeth Barbour (Richard) of Mobile, and Cathryn Gilbert of Milton, Fla.; sister-in-law, Vivian Vickrey of Germantown, Tenn.; 4 grandchildren, Dave Moffett of Smithville, Corey Moffett of Memphis, Sissy Powell (Dr. Tom Powell) of Tupelo, and Heather Vickrey of Texas; great grandchildren, Tyler David Moffett, Jared Drake Moffett both of Smithville, and Brandon Barrett of Tupelo; several cousins; nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Peggy Lochridge. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, C.B. Vickery; and three sisters, Laura Mae Vickrey, Winnogene Eidem, and Adrieth Vickrey. Pallbearers will be Ricky Moffett, Jason Moffett, Tyler Moffett, Drake Moffett, Crandall Barbour, Bryan Moffett, and Dustin Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be Frisco/BNSF employees. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
